Travis Theis entered the Montreal Alouettes organization as a promising rookie, but his second season with the club is proving he is more than a developmental prospect. Theis is becoming a core contributor and is off to a great start, combining improved efficiency with greater opportunity and an increased role within the offence. “I think a lot of chemistry and comfort has been built over time,” Travis Theis said. “Just trust guys and coaches. It’s a great opportunity for me and I’m ready to take advantage of it.”
In his first CFL season, Theis displayed flashes of playmaking ability and dependable hands that earned him steady snaps as a rotational player. Across his rookie year he appeared in 12 games, getting noticed for his versatility as a runner, receiver and special team contributions on kickoffs and punt returns. His play reflected a rookie acclimating to the speed and spacing of the Canadian game. “Huge adjustments,” Theis said. “It’s a little bit different from the American game, and that’s just things to get used to. My love grows for it every day. I don’t want to see the field change. I know a lot of guys have pride in the way the game is played, and the history of the CFL is great, and I love to learn about it, and love to be a part of that too.”
Entering season two, Theis was given a larger role in Montreal’s offence, and he has responded by producing at a higher clip. His 34 carries through the first four games are just about half the carries he had (70) in 2025. He already has 13 receptions compared to 19 over a dozen games last season. “That’s something we’ve been working on since I got here,” he said. “There are growing pains for a rookie, especially an American coming to this league. Just getting comfortable and building camaraderie with the guys and getting shouts from the coaches, we’ve done a good job, and I think that you’ll see that going forward.”
Theis loves playing at Percival Molson Stadium in front of the Alouettes’ faithful. “The best (stadium)in the CFL,” he said. It’s always noisy. The fans are great; they’re on top for you. It’s always full, It’s a great environment. I can’t ask for a better CFL experience. I’d love to play 18 games at home. Can’t do it, you know? I would if I could.” n
