A vote of 23 to 2 has directed Ottawa’s mayor to press the Ontario government to intervene to prevent 40 acres of green space at the Kanata Golf & Country Club property from being developed.

CTV News reports the matter is no longer before the courts, a city councillor says, and the time is right to ask the province again.

Last fall, the Supreme Court of Canada dismissed the city’s appeal of a ruling by the Ontario Court of Appeal associated with a 1981 agreement in which 40 per cent of the property was to be earmarked as green space. The court ruled the agreement was inoperative.

The fate of the golf course property has been debated since 2018.
