Oscar Haywood-Farmer opened the scoring from the penalty spot early in the first half and was among Soccer Quest’s most-menacing threats. 

Not long after the goal, Haywood-Farmer set up Deshawn Lewis with a delightful through ball. 

“My friend, Oscar, he saw me and played the perfect ball to split the two defenders,” the fleet-footed Lewis said. “I just took a touch with my right and put it top bins with my left.” 

After Fischer Hilton tallied to give Soccer Quest a 3-0 lead, Haywood-Farmer was looking for his second goal from the penalty spot. 

This time, Kozic had his number. 

“So the guy, he kicked it to the left last time, so I was kind of assuming he was going to kick it to the right,” Kozic said. “I got lucky and was right. It’s awesome. It gives you a rush of energy.” 

Haywood-Farmer was foiled by both the woodwork and Kozic once more before halftime, but Lucas Viktora pushed Soccer Quest into a 4-0 lead. 

Mason Friend was an enemy to Kozic’s countenance early in the second half. 

“I hit it and it hit the goalie’s face and it just luckily bounced right at me, so I got to finish it,” Friend said. 

Added Kozic: “It hit off my chest and neck and it was just an unlucky rebound. I was just happy I got the first save.” 

Lewis moves and thinks quickly, his mind-games mastery at the spot giving Soccer Quest a 6-0 lead. 

 “Oscar took the last one left,” Lewis said. “I was pretty sure he [Kozic] was guessing me going left again, but I always shoot it right, so I just put it in my normal place and always just look straight at the keeper.” 

Viktora bulged the old onion bag with his second of the match and Vincent Ilic rounded out the scoring with a long-range strike, a stellar cross-goal blast. 

United head coach Geoffrey Shimmin is proud of his club’s effort in defeat. 

“They had good effort all the way through,” he said. “They never gave up. Really impressed with that.” 

KUFC-B dropped to 0-2 ahead of its final round-robin match, a noon clash against Richmond United on Friday [July 17] in the Singh Bowl.  

Soccer Quest (2-0) will square off against Nelson at noon on Friday in the Singh Bowl.

 “If we can get it done tomorrow, I think we have a really good chance in the final,” Friend said.
