The curtains have closed on the first week of the Sault Community Theatre Centre’s Summer Children’s Theatre Camps.

Throughout the week, campers learned the foundations of improv, explored movement and dance, developed singing techniques, and participated in a wide variety of theatre games that helped them strengthen communication, teamwork, creativity, and stage presence.

“We had an incredible first week,” said Garrett Abrams, theatre manager / artistic director of the Sault Community Theatre Centre in a news release.

“Watching campers grow in confidence over just five days was incredibly rewarding. We hope this week has sparked a lifelong interest in the performing arts for many of our campers, and we’re excited to welcome even more young people to SCTC in the weeks ahead.”

The first week of the Sault Community Theatre Centre’s Summer Children’s Theatre Camps has come to a successful close, with young participants spending the week building confidence, exploring creativity, and discovering the fundamentals of live performance.

Throughout the week, campers learned the foundations of improvisation, explored movement and dance, developed singing techniques, and participated in a wide variety of theatre games designed to strengthen communication, teamwork, creativity, and stage presence. The camp culminated in a Friday showcase where participants had the opportunity to share what they had learned with family and friends.

The one-week camps are designed as an introduction to the performing arts, welcoming children of all experience levels. Through a fun, supportive, and play-based environment, campers are encouraged to explore acting, movement, music, and storytelling while developing confidence and discovering new interests. No previous theatre experience is required, only a willingness to participate, collaborate, and have fun.

For older youth or those looking for a more immersive experience, SCTC will also be offering a two-week Performance Intensive later this summer. Designed for participants who are ready to take the next step, the intensive provides a more structured rehearsal process as campers work together to prepare and perform a fully staged production. Whether participants have some previous experience or are looking for their first opportunity to take on a larger role, the intensive offers the chance to build performance skills, collaborate with fellow young artists, and experience the excitement of bringing a production to life on stage.

SCTC’s Summer Children’s Theatre Camps continue with two one-week camps taking place July 13-17 and July 21-25 for youth ages 9-12, followed by a two-week Performance Intensive from Aug. 3-14 for youth ages 9-14, culminating in a fully staged production.

Registration remains open through the SCTC Box Office at Station Mall or online.
