A proposal to develop an eight-storey student housing building for Kwantlen Polytechnic University in Newton will go to a public hearing and then council vote on July 27.

If approved, the project will contain 201 units with 359 beds all told, as well as a cafeteria and dining hall, at 12666 72 Avenue. It would be Surrey’s first on-campus student housing project. It will require 61 parking spaces, according to a planning report, and rent would be offered at least 10 per cent below market rates.

The public hearing will begin at 7 p.m. at City Hall, at 13450 104 Avenue.
