Five Glasgow roads to close for major cycling event- here's when

Five roads in Glasgow’s East End are set to face disruption as a major cycling event gets underway.

Tour de Cycling 4, launched earlier this year by Sir Chris Hoy, aims to challenge perceptions of people living with stage four cancer while raising money for cancer charities.

The event will take place on September 7, with participants starting and finishing at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome.

Cyclists will have the option between a 90km road ride or a shorter 60km option to a 1km family loop around the velodrome, as well as a static bike ride in the centre of the venue.

Preparations for the ride mean that from September 6 until September 7, five roads in the East End will face closures and restrictions.

Here’s everything you need to know about which roads will be closed, when, and why:

Prohibition of waiting, loading unloading

From 3pm on September 6 to 8pm on September 7

Clyde Gateway between London Road and Dalmarnock Road

Unnamed road between Nuneaton Street and London Road

Prohibition of vehicle movements

From 6am on September 7 to 8pm on September 7

Clyde Gateway between London Road and Dalmarnock Road

Unnamed road between Nuneaton Street and London Road

These restrictions have been put in place to ensure the safety of the Tour de Cycling 4 event and other road users.

During this time, emergency service vehicles will be allowed access.

This means any vehicle being used by the police, fire, or ambulance services, as well as blood transfer vehicles operated by the NHS.
