Wednesday’s early morning storm has caused significant damage to a north Edmonton school.
In a statement to CBC News, an Edmonton Public School Board spokesperson said the roof of Killarney Junior High School was damaged, causing flooding inside the building.
EPSB said it was notified around 2:30 a.m. that the school, located in the Killarney neighborhood in north-central Edmonton, sustained damage.
Edmonton Fire Rescue Services, a custodial consultant and a security guard responded to the overnight incident, EPSB said.
In a statement Thursday, the spokesperson said that “multiple classrooms were affected” by the flooding.
EPSB said it is asking staff and families to stay away from the school while the damage is assessed.
