TOKYO – Japan women’s guard Mai Yamamoto has signed a rest-of-season contract with the Las Vegas Aces, the WNBA club announced Friday.

Known for her shooting ability and speed, the 26-year-old from Hiroshima Prefecture could become the fifth Japanese to compete in the WNBA should she appear in the current season that began in May.

Yamamoto played for Japan in 3×3 at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and in 5×5 at the Paris Games in 2024, when she was the key figure for her country.

The Toyota Antelopes in Japan’s W League announced Yamamoto’s departure from the club in May.
