New Movies Streaming‘The Hunt for the Wilderpeople’ (2016)
Sam Neill, who passed away this week at age 78, was best known for his work in American blockbusters like “Jurassic Park” and “The Hunt for Red October.” But the New Zealand native returned to his roots in this Kiwi comedy, playing a reluctant father figure on the run with his ward (Julian Dennison). The pair’s journey away from society and deeper into the bush is dotted with outlandish characters portrayed by fellow New Zealanders, including Rhys Darby and the film’s director, Taika Waititi.

‘Obsession’ (2026)
The surprise horror hit of 2026, Curry Barker’s cautionary tale — about a timid twentysomething named Bear (Michael Johnston) who wishes for his crush Nikki (Inde Navarrette) to love him above all else — grossed more than $400 million on a paltry $750,000 budget. It’s a classic monkey’s paw situation — Bear’s wish immediately comes true, but the unintended consequences are alarming. Navarrette, in a breakthrough performance, is unforgettable.

‘Oh Brother, Where Art Thou?’ (2000)
You should definitely go watch Matt Damon in Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” on the biggest screen possible this weekend. But if you’re loath to leave the couch, it’s also worth revisiting one of the more recent (and more amusing) takes on Homer’s epic poem. Ulysses “Everett” McGill (George Clooney) may lack the wit of Odysseus, but the Coen Brothers’ folksy journey features a stranded wife (Holly Hunter), mesmerizing sirens, and a dangerous cyclops (John Goodman).

New TV Shows Streaming‘Lucky’ Season 1
Crime runs in the family in this brisk seven-episode series, the latest in a string of winners from Apple TV. The series starts with Lucky (Anya Taylor-Joy) and her husband Cary (Drew Starkey) celebrating in Las Vegas with an ill-gotten bag of $10 million waiting upstairs. Turns out Lucky’s father (Timothy Olyphant) stole the money from Cary’s mother (Annette Bening), which quickly leads to quite the kerfuffle. Not to be outdone, the FBI agent investigating the family (Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor) has her teenage daughter (Aadyn Encalarde) along for the ride.

‘Silo’ Season 3
Already missing the ominous wildfire-choked skies from earlier this week? Check out “Silo,” Apple TV’s post-apocalyptic sci-fi series about the last 10,000 people on Earth living inside a massive underground silo. If you haven’t watched the first two seasons yet, just know that many people — including engineer Juliette (Rebecca Ferguson), begin to suspect that the silo’s mayor (Tim Robbins) isn’t being completely honest about what’s on the surface.
