The Winnipeg Blue Bombers are honouring one of the most influential players in franchise history by launching a new scholarship program for Indigenous students pursuing post-secondary education.
In partnership with Eagle Vision, the club has announced the 2026 Jack Jacobs Scholarships. Two $2,000 scholarships will be awarded to Indigenous high school students from Manitoba or northwestern Ontario who plan to continue their education after graduation.
The scholarships will recognize students who demonstrate both a passion for sports and a strong commitment to academic achievement.
Jack Jacobs, a proud member of the Creek people, served as the Blue Bombers’ quarterback from 1950 to 1954. He is widely credited with helping transform Canadian football through his innovative use of the forward pass and led Winnipeg to two Grey Cup appearances.

His popularity helped reshape football in Winnipeg. Crowds flocked to Osborne Stadium during his time with the club, prompting the construction of Winnipeg Stadium in 1953, a venue that later became known as “The House That Jack Built.”
Jacobs was inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1963 and the Winnipeg Football Club Hall of Fame in 1984.
The Blue Bombers say the new scholarships are intended to celebrate Jacobs’ lasting legacy while supporting the next generation of Indigenous leaders.
The scholarships will be presented on September 25th at the Blue Bombers’ home game.
Applications are open until July 31. Eligible students can apply through the Winnipeg Blue Bombers’ website.
