A new premium health and fitness centre owned by a professional boxer will be transforming a former commercial gym in Chatham this year. Club Eight 3 is taking over the TruGym site at The Quays in Chatham Maritime following its sudden closure on Saturday, July 4, having operated in the Medway town for more than a decade.

In a message shared to members, the TruGym team said: “J5 Sports Ltd, the company that owns and operates TruGym Chatham, has been acquired by new owners. The new owners will be carrying out a full refurbishment before reopening the club under a new name, Club Eight 3.”

Members were advised that existing memberships would not continue in their current form and that they would not be charged under their current plan going forward, with membership of the new club to be organised by the Club Eight 3 owners. Chatham local Moses Itauma is teaming up with his brother and fellow professional boxer Karol Itauma, as well as Ipswich Town footballer Anis Mehmeti and amateur boxer Frank Wood, to deliver the new fitness centre.

The team behind Club Eight 3 said: “Created in the heart of Chatham, the club has been designed as more than a gym. It is a refined members-only environment where elite performance, recovery and discreet hospitality come together to support the way our members train, connect and live.

“Club Eight 3 redefines the modern fitness experience by uniting performance training, recovery, convenience, and lifestyle medicine under one roof. Through expert coaching, advanced wellness therapies, and a close-knit members’ community, we make evidence-based health part of everyday life.

“Every detail has been considered to help members look, feel, and perform at their best, not only in the gym, but in every area of life.” Planned features for the club include a gym, dedicated cardio zone, outdoor spa, a longevity room featuring a hydrotherapy jacuzzi, a Pilates studio, red light therapy room, and blood testing and vitamin protocol therapy services.

These will join a cafe offering ‘high-quality nutrition, specialty coffee, and performance focused meals’. The gym is targeting a launch in September of this year, though an exact date is yet to be set, and will be open on weekdays from 5am to 10pm, then 6am to 8pm on Sundays.

The TruGym Chatham team added in their farewell message: “After 11 years, we want to thank every member who has supported TruGym Chatham. It has been a privilege to be part of your fitness journey, and we look forward to you experiencing everything the new club has to offer when Club Eight 3 opens.”
