An early-morning brawl in Montreal’s Plateau-Mont-Royal borough Sunday escalated into a stabbing, police say, resulting in serious injuries for a 26-year-old man.
The victim went to a hospital, police spokesperson Manuel Couture said, and is expected to survive.
First responders received a 911 call around 3:20 a.m. alerting them to an injured person near the intersection of Berri St. and Mont-Royal Ave., Couture said.
Police responding to the call found the 26-year-old victim. Officers arrested a 29-year-old man near the scene.
“According to initial accounts, it appears that a conflict broke out among several people and escalated into a physical altercation,” Couture said.
“A suspect then allegedly stabbed the victim in the upper body with an edged weapon.”
The 29-year-old suspect is in a detention centre, Couture said, and will be interviewed by investigators.
