The Okotoks Dawgs Academy 18U Black are headed to the Morneau Cup championship game after defeating the Mississauga Tigers HPP 14-4 in Sunday’s semifinal at Seaman Stadium.
Okotoks took control early, with Rhys Whitford, Cam Gerla and Nash Pearce each delivering RBI singles to give the Dawgs a 3-0 lead.
Kadyn Armitage then broke the game open with a three-run home run, extending the lead to 6-0.
The Dawgs eventually built a 9-0 advantage before Mississauga responded with four runs.
Okotoks answered immediately in the bottom of the second. Nash Pearce hit a three-run home run to make it 12-4 before Armitage followed with his second homer of the game.
Armitage finished with two home runs and four RBIs.
Pryor Woollett stole third before scoring the Dawgs’ final run in the bottom of the fourth, giving Okotoks a 14-4 lead.
The game was called after five innings, sending the Dawgs into Sunday’s Morneau Cup championship game.
The Dawgs will face the Sylvan Lake Gulls 19U, the prep team of their WCBL division rivals, in the Morneau Cup final at 4 p.m. this Sunday at Seaman Stadium.
