Lightning strikes were the cause of several wildfires in B.C. this week
Three wildfires were burning on Vancouver Island on Sunday morning, down from five on Saturday, caused by lightning strikes after thunderstorms struck much of the province.
Two of the remaining fires are being held by crews, while the third is labelled as under control by the B.C. Wildfire Service.
All three are northwest of Campbell River and range in size from 0.001 to 0.1 hectares.
Figures from the wildfire service show 106 active wildfires across British Columbia, most of them concentrated in the Southern Interior, including Boston Bar, where the Brunswick Creek and Ainslie Creek fires continue to burn out of control. That community, as well as other areas around it remain subject to evacuation order.
The wildfire service said in a statement that 401 evacuees are receiving support across British Columbia.
It said that 580 properties are on evacuation orders, and 1,805 properties are on evacuation alert.
