The nickname changed to ‘Korean Tyson’ is overshadowed.
Only succeeded when it is a true ‘Korean Tyson’

South Korea’s UFC 24 fighter Ko Seok-hyun (33, Havas MMA)’s international status has declined. They lost for the first time in three games since their debut as the world’s largest mixed martial arts (MMA) group.

UFC Fight Night 281 was held at the Paycom Center in Oklahoma City on July 19 (Korea time). Ko Seok-hyun lost to Jean-Paul LeBosnoyani (27) in a unanimous decision of 28-29 after a welterweight (77kg) 5 minutes × 3 rounds away game.

All three UFC Fight Night 281 deputy judges scored that Ko Seok-hyun led 10-9 in the first round, but the second and third rounds were 9-10 in a row. The mixed martial arts ranking system “Fight Matrix” calculated that Ko Seok-hyun fell 45 points and 20.2 percent from 223 points in the welterweight division to 178 points.

Ko Seok-hyun ranked 31st in the UFC welterweight division and the top 40.8% in the UFC welterweight division to 39th and top 51.3% in the UFC welterweight division. The failure of UFC’s three consecutive wins has reduced the welterweight status by 20.5%. “Still a little overrated,” Fight Matrix said, adding a sober assessment.

Ko Seok-hyun declared that he would change his nickname from “Korean Tyson” to “Technical” ahead of UFC Fight Night 281, but it has not yet been reflected on the official website of the conglomerate.

Effective batting data showed that Ko Seok-hyun showed better technique as a striker than Jean-Pol-Lebosnoyani with a face 55-35 and a distance of 61-41. However, the clinch hit was pushed to 2-11. Grappling and grounding were scarce in all areas.

Ko Seok-hyun’s technique was not enough to deter a reckless opponent even in the middle of the UFC. Ko Seok-hyun, who is 178cm tall and 180cm tall based on his UFC profile, needs to be a true “Korean Tyson” rather than a clumsy technique to succeed in the MMA World No. 1 stage.
