A 49-year-old man is facing an impaired driving charge after police say he lost control of his vehicle, damaging a bus shelter, utility pole and traffic signal box in downtown Winnipeg.
Winnipeg police say the man was speeding in his 2005 Ford Mustang along Sargent Avenue at around 9:30 a.m. Sunday when he attempted to turn onto Balmoral Street and lost control.
Crash damages downtown intersection
He hit a bus shelter and a Manitoba Hydro pole before crashing into a traffic signal box. The impact left the vehicle’s front wheels suspended in the air, with the car resting against the signal box.

Driver arrested after crash
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. After speaking with him, officers determined he was impaired by alcohol and took him into custody.
He was later released on an Appearance Notice and is scheduled to appear in court on the charge.
