Expect reduced service on the Expo Line in Downtown Vancouver this summer.
Beginning on Saturday (July 25) TransLink will temporarily reduce service on the weekends in downtown Vancouver in the early mornings on Saturdays and Sundays, and late Sunday nights, according to a press release.
The work is expected to continue into the fall. Canada Line and Millennium Line service will operate normally.
The upgrades are essential maintenance work “to the linear induction motor (LIM) rail to ensure the continued safety and reliability” of the SkyTrain, says the transit authority.
Passengers should allow an extra 20 minutes to travel through or use downtown Vancouver stations during the maintenance work.

The LIM Rail replacement program will replace the original Expo Line LIM rail to match the Millennium Line, which will begin with the track section between Waterfront and Stadium-Chinatown stations.
The SkyTrain uses the LIM system to control the acceleration and braking of trains by “converting electrical energy into a magnetic field that reacts with the LIM rail, located between the running rails in the SkyTrain track.” This unique technology allows the SkyTrain to operate in all weather conditions.
