Brendan Farnsworth has a highlight for the ages – and he hasn’t even hit the pros yet.
A beautiful finish is a beautiful finish regardless of the competitive level it takes place at. Regional MMA is full of them – it’s a big part of the fun. But even then, there aren’t a whole lot of buggy chokes. Saturday at UNF 34 in Commerce, Calif., lightweight Brendan Farnsworth pulled off as slick a grappling manuever as you’ll see en route to an amateur title victory over previously unbeaten Rafayel Ktikyan.
Farnsworth, 26, moved to 6-1 as an amateur. Fighters should never rush themselves, but you have to wonder if there’d be a better time to enter the professional ranks, given the level of momentum after beating another reputable guy in a difficult regional circuit.
But if the MMA gods say another buggy choke or two is needed first, we, the viewers, must partake in enjoying them.
