Surrey World Cup soccer fan zones draw more than 175K people

Although the FIFA World Cup 2026™ is now over, several thousand people celebrated the international soccer contest in Surrey by gathering at multiple fan zones set up by the city.
Spain emerged the ultimate victor over Argentina Sunday (July 19), more than a month after the June 11 start. The fan zones officially launched at Surrey Civic Plaza on June 12 for Canada’s first match of the tournament.
Fans also gathered at the Cloverdale Agriplex, South Surrey Athletic Park and Holland Park as the fan zones rolled out across the city, a release shared, with events featuring more than 100 live match broadcasts, live entertainment, family-friendly activities, community exhibitors and food trucks.
More than 175,000 fans gathered across Surrey to view the games and participate in the worldwide event at the city’s fan zones, making them the largest celebrations the city has ever hosted, spanning six weeks and four locations.
“The FIFA World Cup is a once-in-a-generation event, and we wanted everyone in Surrey to have the opportunity to be part of it,” Mayor Brenda Locke said in the release. “The free fan zones made it possible for families, friends and neighbours to share the excitement of the tournament without having to buy a ticket to a match. Thank you to everyone who attended, volunteered and helped make this celebration such a success, and to the Province of British Columbia for its support.”
Throughout the tournament, the fan zones featured more than 75 local performers, over 50 community partners, and 250 volunteers, reflecting the many local organizations and individuals who contributed to the festivities, the release said.
