The Guardians kept pace with the American League Central-leading Chicago White Sox with the win, remaining one game back, after hitting seven home runs in a Monday night blowout victory. Cleveland came into the game tied with the Tampa Bay Rays for the third-fewest home runs in baseball with 94.

Twins starter Joe Ryan tied a MLB record by serving up six home runs, as the All-Star was rocked for eight runs on 10 hits in four innings of work. Brooks Lee tripled home a run for Minnesota in the second inning and Victor Caratini stroked an RBI double in the eighth. Ryan became the 11th pitcher in MLB history to surrender six homers in a game and the first Twin hurler to do so, as the club lost its third straight game.
All-Star left-hander Parker Messick (8-5) gets the call for the Guardians on Tuesday night, coming in with a 2.73 ERA and 1.071 WHIP in 19 starts and 112 innings. Rookie left-hander Kendry Rojas (1-1) takes the ball for Minnesota, entering with a 2.79 ERA and 1.603 WHIP over eight appearances, two of them starts and 19.1 innings, striking out 22.
