Winnipeg police say a 32-year-old man has been charged in connection with a carjacking on Monday evening.
WPS says just before 6 p.m., patrol officers were near Salter Street at Selkirk Avenue when they observed a carjacking in progress.
The officers then approached the vehicle — a 2020 Ford Explorer — and allegedly saw a man assaulting a man in his 70s, trying to pull him from the Ford.
The man then fled on foot, but officers were able to take him into custody along Flora Avenue, noting that a conducted energy weapon was used.
Through an investigation, police learned that the man in his 70s was driving north on Salter Street when the other man jumped in front of his vehicle, forcing him to stop. This then led to the alleged assault that WPS observed.
Since then, 32-year-old Dustin Tony Vincent Bouchard has been charged with robbery.
