Data from the Town of Whitby shows hundreds of coyote sightings.
Over the last year, there have been 546 reported sightings, along with two bites and two interactions with pets.
Council held an education session on Monday and planned their next steps to address the issue.
Mayor Elizabeth Roy says Whitby has “strong” monitoring tools, including a public dashboard and online reporting system.
Officials have also developed a new Coexistence and Response Strategy.
The mayor says next steps include updating their reporting tool to let residents submit more info.
The town is also partnering with Coyote Watch Canada to conduct inspections and implement mitigation measures, in areas with a high number of sightings.
Staff will be hosting a public open house in August, to answer questions and help educate residents.
They’re also going to schedule door-to-door visits in targeted neighbourhoods.
