New pool may be built in Cloverdale

A new pool may be built in East Surrey.
Mayor Brenda Locke announced plans July 21 to build a new pool for Cloverdale/Clayton Heights.
Pending re-election, the mayor said her Surrey Connect team will work to bring new infrastructure projects to the city. Those include a new pool for the Cloverdale/Clayton Heights area (location to be determined), a new convention centre on the Cloverdale Fairgrounds, and a new home for the B.C. Vintage Truck Museum, (likely in Cloverdale or even on the Fairgrounds, but definitely remaining in Surrey).
“Today, we are making a big announcement that will change how families access swimming right here in Cloverdale,” the mayor said outside the Clayton Community Centre. “When our Surrey Connect Team is re-elected, we will build a new Aquatic Centre for Cloverdale. This won’t just be a pool—our goal is a multi-use aquatic facility tailored for the many families in Surrey, with initial concepts including a water park, therapeutic areas, and spaces designed for children learning to swim.”
The mayor said there will be a public consultation process to hash out all the details and the community will have input.
She added city pools, such as Grandview and Fleetwood, are “oversubscribed,” so a Cloverdale pool will help alleviate pressure on other pools and halve East Surrey residents’ commute to an indoor pool.
“This is a community amenity and we want the community to have a say.”
Mayor Locke also noted a 200,000 square-foot convention centre is also coming to the Cloverdale Fairgrounds, which may or may not include a hotel. The Surrey City Development Corporation (SCDC) will be coming up with the report on how that will all shake out. That report will likely be out sometime in the spring or summer of 2027.
“The consultation process for the (Cloverdale Fairgrounds) is still going on and it’s only really just taking off now,” the mayor said. “SCDC … is leading the plan for Cloverdale.”
The mayor also noted that the B.C. Vintage Truck Museum will also have a home. She didn’t say if the museum would remain on the Fairgrounds, or even in Cloverdale, but it would stay in Surrey.
She said the truck museum is “near and dear” to Surreyites’ hearts.
“We will make sure that there is a place somewhere for the truck museum,” the mayor added.
