Your chance to learn to learn about local bat species, bat population monitoring, and how you can support local bat conservation efforts happen Wednesday, July 22 and Saturday, July 25
The Junction Creek Stewardship Committee is giving Sudburians two chances to enjoy their bat walks, the first of which happens the evening of Wednesday, July 22 and the second, on Saturday, July 25.
The guided walks are your opportunity to learn about local bat species, bat population monitoring, and how you can support local bat conservation efforts using acoustic bat monitors to detect the nocturnal creatures. However, note that “seeing bats is not guaranteed,” said the organizers.
On Wednesday night, head to Fielding Memorial Park at 345 Fielding Rd.; on Saturday night, Park Lawn Cemetery (379 Horobin St.). Both events are pay-what-you-can, but donations are welcome and will go to support bat monitoring and conservation programs in Greater Sudbury.
The July 22 event is supported by the Blackbird Studio Sudbury, and the July 25 event is supported by the Witches & Weirdos as part of their Gaia’s Graveyard Market.
“Before the walk, explore the Gaia’s Graveyard Market, a one-of-a-kind celebration of the strange and beautifully bizarre,” states a release from the Junction Creek Committee.
Explore a curated gathering of 20 alternative local vendors, dark artists and practitioners/readers. Discover oddities, eerie crafts, and tarot readings from the finest creators in our community.
The market will take place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (bat walk starts at 9 p.m) at The Polish Combatants Hall at 291 Albinson St.
For the walk, organizers recommended you dress for the weather and bring a headlamp or flashlight. And as usual in the north, bug protection is highly recommended.
