Quebec provincial police say they’re ending their search for a Montreal man who fell into the St. Lawrence River near Marsoui in the Gaspé region last Friday.
Pepito Jr Labador, 45, went missing in the water along with another man, in his 30s, while they were fishing on July 17. One lost his footing and fell in the water. The other then attempted to help and was also swept away by the current.
Later that morning, the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) said they found the younger man’s body. A search operation for Labador had been ongoing since.
In a news release Thursday, the SQ says its investigation continues even if the search is suspended.
“Depending on how the information obtained develops, the authorities may reassess the situation and redeploy appropriate resources if the circumstances warrant it,” the statement reads.
