Newcastle players both past and present reacted to Anthony Elanga’s recent update amid preparations for the new season.
Elanga completed his move to Newcastle earlier this month in a deal worth around £55million from Nottingham Forest.
Eddie Howe’s side had been targeting a new forward this summer and, after Joao Pedro opted for Chelsea and Bryan Mbeumo made clear his desire to join Manchester United, attention turned back to the Swedish winger.
Football Insider revealed that Elanga was pushing for a move to St James’ Park, with the winger already having strong relationships with several players at the club, including William Osula.
Now, Elanga has posted on Instagram following a kit number reveal by the club’s official account, with several familiar faces showing their support.

The club’s Instagram post received a response from multiple players, with Newcastle legend Alan Shearer, Joelinton, and Kieran Trippier all among those who liked the update.
Elanga’s arrival is expected to be a significant boost for Eddie Howe after the 23-year-old enjoyed an impressive season at Nottingham Forest, tallying 18 goal contributions across all competitions, including 11 assists in the Premier League.
While Jacob Murphy was a standout performer for Newcastle on the right flank last season, bolstering competition in wide areas was a clear priority this summer, especially with Champions League football on the horizon.
Newcastle supporters had long called for Elanga to join, particularly after a string of attacking targets, including Pedro, Liam Delap, and Mbeumo, opted for other destinations.

The Magpies are still in the market for a new striker following Callum Wilson’s departure, with Brentford’s Yoane Wissa emerging as a key target for Newcastle.
There had initially been concern that Brentford would be reluctant to lose Wissa, particularly with Mbeumo closing in on a move to Manchester United. However, the situation has shifted after Wissa reportedly rejected an offer to enter contract talks with the Bees, expressing a desire to leave [BBC Sport].
Tottenham are also showing interest in the striker, meaning Newcastle could face competition for his signature but the Magpies remain hopeful of avoiding further transfer frustration after narrowly missing out on several previous targets.
