Three elementary schools in Peel District School Board have reason to celebrate as they’ve been recognized by the City of Mississauga for their leadership in promoting safe and active travel to and from school.
Over at Corliss Public School, Principal Tina Godsoe received the 2025 Dr. Arthur Wood Award from the Mississauga School Traffic Safety Action Committee (MSTSAC) for her leadership in advancing active transportation and improving school zone safety at her school, which includes creating safer conditions for students, families, pedestrians and drivers during busy arrival and dismissal times
At Corliss P.S., Ms. Godsoe led several initiatives to support students and families, including partnering with the City of Mississauga’s School Streets program to create a temporary car-free zone during arrival and dismissal. She also improved the Kiss and Ride safety procedures, launched a winter clothing boutique for students in need, and provided active travel maps translated into the school’s most commonly spoken languages.
Meanwhile, at Dixie Public School and Floradale Public School, they also received the 2025 Wilde Wood School Safety Zone Award for promoting safe, active travel through initiatives such as the City’s School Walking Routes program. Both schools also have student ambassadors and Walk and Roll to School Wednesdays.
Presented annually by MSTSAC, the awards recognize schools and educators who demonstrate leadership in promoting traffic safety and active transportation in their school communities.
