Legionpalooza coming to Cloverdale Legion

One of the biggest music festivals, if not the biggest, in B.C. history is coming to Cloverdale—and it’s all free!
Legionpalooza is set to take over the Cloverdale Legion from Friday, July 31, through Monday, Aug. 3.
“We’ve got nine tribute bands playing,” said Gregory Crane, the event organizer. “We’ve got a Journey tribute (Lights Vancouver) opening on Friday at 4 p.m.”
The May long weekend festival will have 4 days of music featuring 32 bands. Tribute bands will cover music from: Elvis, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Temple pilots, British Rock, Tom Petty, and more.
“We’ve got a band playing every hour, so the switchover has to be pretty fast.”
And it’s all for a good cause.
“Every single one of the bands donated their time,” revealed Crane. “This is a fundraiser to renovate the Legion. All the siding is 85 years old and it’s rotting really bad.”
He said the siding needs to be replaced and they’d like to have that completed by March 2027, which is the Cloverdale Legion’s 100th anniversary. The Royal Canadian Legion celebrated its 100th anniversary last week on July 17.
“We want to have a big celebration for our centennial, but before that we’d like to renovate the place,” he added.
Crane said the whole idea behind Legionpalooza is to offer it as a free event and solicit donations so the Legion can raise those much-needed reno funds. Fundraising initiatives over the weekend include a silent auction and 50/50 draws.
“We’re only giving out 2,000 tickets for the weekend festival,” he said. “So it’s a ticketed event, but it is free.”
Crane added free tickets can be picked up at the Cloverdale Legion, either at the main office or from the bar.
“The capacity at any given time is 500. So, we anticipate it will be busy all weekend.”
Crane noted they have 20 volunteers already signed up, but they are looking for more. They’re looking for people to help in various areas, such as: people for the sound team, roadies, servers for the beer garden, ticket checkers, security team members, and fundraising help.
He said the weekend festivities are all about the community coming together and helping to restore the 85-year-old building.
“It’s the biggest thing we’ve ever put on. So I’m hoping everything runs smoothly.”
