Provincial police laid charges against a 23-year-old from the east end after a single-vehicle crash on Highway 417.
Officials were near Terry Fox Drive when they got a call about an incident. They were told that around noon on July 23, a vehicle collided on the highway.
When they arrived on scene, the G2 driver was already suspended, and she registered three times the legal limit of blood alcohol, officials said.
As a result police laid a slew of charges including:
Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
Dangerous operation
Driving while under suspension- times two
Novice driver B.A.C above zero
Driving a motor vehicle with open container of liquor
The woman from Orleans was issued a 90-day licence suspension, a seven-day vehicle impound, and she’s set to appear in court in September.
Impaired driving in Ottawa
Police across the nation’s capital have been warning that impaired driving is a growing concern.
As of early June, Ottawa police said officers have laid 391 impaired-driving-related charges year-to-date, compared to 327 during the same period in 2025. This is an increase of 19.5 per cent.
To combat the problem, officials launched a campaign to put up signs that read “impaired driver caught here” to deter people. Ottawa police say that since the launch of the campaign, impaired driving has lowered three percentage points, which they say is a “modest improvement.”
