The Winmar AAA Warriors are making a final push for registrations ahead of their Alumni Golf Tournament on Aug. 7 at Lynbrook Golf Club, with a handful of team spots still available.
Alumni connection adds new element
This year’s event features a stronger focus on reuniting former Warriors players. Each foursome will be joined by a program alumnus, providing participants with the opportunity to hear stories from players who have advanced to higher levels of hockey.
“You get to spend some time with someone who used to play for our program and has gone on to do great things,” said Warriors general manager Jay-D Haughton, noting many former players have advanced to the next level.
The day will also include longest-drive and closest-to-the-pin contests, along with a horse race following the round.
Fundraiser helps offset costs
Haughton said the tournament is one of several fundraising initiatives that help cover the costs of operating the U18 AAA program.
“We do have several operational costs like travel, meals, hotels, things like that. Expenses that we have throughout our season,” he said. “This is just another way that helps us out throughout the regular season and into the playoffs as well.”

Earlier than usual
The tournament is typically held near the end of September, but organizers moved it to Aug. 7 this year in hopes of taking advantage of better weather and making it easier for alumni to attend.
“We decided this year to move it up to Aug. 7 to allow for more sunshine,” Haughton said. “It allows us to have our alumni come out before they head to their respective junior or pro camps.”
Registration remains open
Registration is available through email at manageraaawarriors@gmail.com, or the Warriors’ Facebook and Instagram pages. Haughton encouraged anyone interested in supporting the team to enter a squad while openings remain.
“We have some open spots,” he said. “So if you want to put a team together, come out and hang out with the Winmar AAA Warriors on a great day.”
