The provincial government is highlighting recent data indicating that Saskatchewan is currently leading the country in retail trade.
According to Statistics Canada, Saskatchewan’s retail trade saw a 2.9 percent increase from April to May, the highest month-over-month growth among the provinces.
“This increase in retail trade will directly lead to more jobs and opportunities for the people of the province,” Trade and Export Development Minister Warren Kaeding said. “Our vibrant retail industry is spurring investment into Saskatchewan communities and strengthening the economy which in turn, helps protect the vital programs and services we rely on.”
The latest GDP numbers show Saskatchewan reached an all-time high real GDP of $85.4 billion representing a 2.2 percent increase. This places the province well above the national average of 1.7 percent. There was a 12 percent increase in private capital investments in Saskatchewan last year, also ranking first in the country at $13.6 billion.
