British boxing icon Anthony Joshua is back in the Saudi Arabia spotlight on Saturday as he faces Kristian Prenga in his first fight of 2026. The former heavyweight world champion has been teed up to face long-time rival Tyson Fury before the year is out and needs a win over his knockout-loving foe in Riyadh to generate excitement for that bout.

Joshua, 36, last fought in December when he knocked YouTuber Jake Paul out in devastating fashion. The 29-4 superstar continues to attract massive audiences despite falling away from the title picture in recent years and has question marks around him after he was unharmed in a Nigeria car crash back in December, which resulted in the deaths of two members of his coaching team.

Prenga, 35, has finished all 20 of his professional wins to date and most recently stopped American Joe Jones in front of a home New Jersey crowd in February. The veteran has been highly active over the past 18 months or so with four fights since the start of 2025, ending the last three of those inside the first round.

Despite the gulf in pedigree between the two fighters, Joshua would be unwise to underestimate an opponent who clearly has a puncher’s chance given his KO record. That may be the start and end of Prenga’s realistic chances, however, as Joshua hopes to bag a vital win en route to what he hopes will be a historic showdown against ‘The Gypsy King’ later in the year.
