NASCAR Cup Series driver Carson Hocevar, the sport’s newest superstar, has used a lot of it recently to get to events such as the Met Gala and the TIME100 Sports Gala as his star continues to rise.

“The fuel for the jets to all these places isn’t cheap, and the dirt late model stuff we run… so we got to sell a lot of t-shirts,” said Hocevar, who won the pole for the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Saturday. “And people buy t-shirts for winners and pole award winners. The more t-shirts we can sell, the more galas and fun dirt races and stuff we can go to, and my boss [Spire Motorsports co-owner Jeff Dickerson] isn’t getting questioned of why we’re spending money.”
All jokes aside, Saturday’s pole run at IMS is indicative of the career year that Hocevar is having. He enters Sunday’s race seventh in the Cup Series standings and still living in the limelight accrued from his first Cup win at Talladega on April 26 and the subsequent viral celebration.
A win in one of NASCAR’s crown jewel races on Sunday at the world’s most famous racetrack would only add to Hocevar’s increasing stardom.
Hocevar will be joined by his Spire Motorsports teammate, Daniel Suarez, on the front row for Sunday’s race. The third Spire driver, Michael McDowell, will start sixth.
