Should Joe Tate (Ned Porteous) be concerned in Emmerdale?

His big wedding to Dawn Fletcher (Olivia Bromley) is on the horizon, though with most soap nuptials, one half of the ‘happy’ couple is facing a moral dilemma before they tie the knot.

This is, of course, Dawn. She’d already expressed concerns about her fiancé’s morality when she learnt that he was partly responsible for the ice lake disaster last year, but ultimately agreed to trust him and go ahead with tying the knot.

Her decision was partly influenced by the fact she’s carrying his child, and felt she couldn’t afford to raise another child as a single mother.

Meanwhile, Home Farm housemate Gabby Thomas (Rosie Bentham) has developed a promising relationship with Dawn’s ex-husband Billy Fletcher (Jay Kontzle). Although it’s still early days, the two have expressed commitment to one another – and Dawn doesn’t seem happy.

In today’s episode, Gabby collapsed in the hallway, suffering from her eating disorder. Dawn was none the wiser and rushed her to see GP Manpreet Sharma (Rebecca Sarker).

The doctor confirmed that Gabby’s iron levels were low, and also wondered when the last time she’d had a period. Gabby explained that it was three or four weeks ago, though it was unlikely that she was pregnant. Manpreet still thought it would be a good precaution to take a test, just to be sure.

When she returned home, Dawn questioned her about the results.

Gabby revealed Manpreet’s suggestion that she could be pregnant, and added that she had decided not to take the contraceptive pill anymore for fears of what it could be doing to her body. Dawn thought that this was odd, and told her that she must let Billy know.

Before she had opportunity to, Billy caught up with his ex in the caff. They chatted about Gabby’s earlier incident, and that she was no longer on the pill.

He was shocked and resolved to address the issue with his partner, though by the time he did, she was furious with Dawn’s lack of confidentiality.

That night, after running into Joe, Gabby revealed that she didn’t trust Dawn and believed that she was jealous of her new romance with Billy.

Should Joe be worried?
