When it comes to Korean dramas, some characters stay with me long after the end credits roll, like Han Jipyeong (Kim Seon Ho) in Start-Up. Jipyeong, on paper, was a quintessential “second lead.” However, by the end of the K-drama, almost everyone was Team Jipyeong. Similarly, there are so many such fan-favourite characters — with limited screen time, on many occasions — who we wish to see more prominently, like a spin-off just for them as the lead.
*SPOILERS AHEAD* In this week’s I’ve watched over 100 K-dramas column, I reveal the K-drama characters who I believe deserve their own spin-off. They include intriguing individuals, some of whom made me swoon, while others made me laugh out loud or feel every type of emotion towards them. Hint: Beloved Hallyu stars such as Kim Seon Ho, Lee Min Ho, Lee Jun Young and more have made it to my list…
I’ve watched over 100 K-dramas, and here are 9 characters from binge-worthy Korean dramas who deserve their own spin-off — Kim Seon Ho, Lee Min Ho, Lee Jun Young & more1. Han Jipyeong (Kim Seon Ho) in Start-Up
Unsurprisingly, I start the list with my favourite K-drama character of all time: Han Jipyeong, brought to life by the supremely talented Kim Seon Ho. In Start-Up‘s first episode, viewers had a swerve moment because Jipyeong was treated as the main lead, only to become the trademark “second lead syndrome”, who neither gets the girl nor a little less lonely life. It would be interesting to see a Han Jipyeong spin-off where he gets a love line of his own and finds his true happy ending.
2. Ko Hansu (Lee Min Ho) in Pachinko
