Peel police say they are investigating a suspicious death after a body was found near train tracks in Brampton, Ont.

In a post to X, formerly known as Twitter, Sunday afternoon, Peel Regional Police said there is a large police presence in the area of Queen Street E. and Theatre Lane after a person was found dead in the area adjacent to the tracks.

The incident is being investigated as a suspicious death, though the circumstances around what led to it are unclear at this time, Const. Moulika Sharma told CBC Toronto in an email.

“Most deaths are considered suspicious until the results of autopsy are made available,” she said. “Officers will be on scene for an unknown amount of time conducting their investigation and we appreciate the public’s patience at this time.”

Sharma added the incident is not being treated as a homicide. Peel police are not sharing details about the person until next of kin are notified.

Sharma also said the call came in shortly before 8:30 a.m.

In an email to CBC Toronto, Metrolinx said there are currently no impacts to service in relation to the incident. They added the situation did not involve a train.
