Ugly Potato Day is returning to the Cloverdale Fairgrounds in August.
The one-day, free-produce event is set for Aug. 8 with a fruit pick-up location in the Agripex and a veggie pick-up location in the Stetson Bowl.
Billed as “Ugly Potato Day by Odd Bunch,”organizers expect upwards of 20,000-plus people to attend.
According to a post on uglypotato.fobi.ai, the event gave away 490,000 lbs of produce in a single day last year. This year, organizers want to give away even more.
“Every year, grocery stores reject perfectly good food just because it looks a little different,” notes the post on uglypotato.fobi.ai. “A wonky carrot. A blemished apple. A potato that is too small or too big. It all gets tossed, even though there is nothing wrong with it. Ugly Potato Day by Odd Bunch is here to change that.”
Hundreds of thousands of pounds of rescued produce will be available and given away for free at the event Aug. 8.
“No catch. Just good food that deserves a plate, not a landfill.”
Along with gobs and gobs of fresh produce, event-attendees can expect live music at the event along with games, prizes, giveaways, a special guest speaker, and more.
Admission is free but organizers are asking attendees to pre-register to help manage volume.
Each person can expect to get about 20 to 30 pounds of produce. Attendees must bring: their own bags (2 max.), water, digital ticket (screenshot your confirmation email as a backup), and no carts or wagons allowed.
Organisers are asking people to remember to arrive during your selected time slot, as tickets are scanned once with no re-entry. Each ticket allows for 1 adult and 1 child.
Free parking is available on-site (see map above). Parking will be at the Cloverdale racetrack with entry via 176th Street on both 62nd Avenue and the Fairground’s entrance between the curling rink and The Barn.
Ugly Potato Day was started by Tyler Heppell, a fifth-generation farmer, in 2022. The event quickly outgrew the space available on his farm and he moved it to the Fairgrounds in 2024.
Odd Bunch is Ugly Potato Day’s presenting sponsor. They came on board in 2025 and the organisation is Canada’s fastest-growing produce delivery company. Odd Bunch rescues imperfect fruits and vegetables.
