A beloved downtown lunchtime staple is changing hands.

Owners Maurizio and Massimo Segato took to social media over the weekend to announce the sale of Italian Food Imports on Blanshard Street.

“Our family started the Italian Deli in 1985 as a way to bring a piece of Italy to Victoria. Throughout the years, we have had the privilege to share our lives with you and vice versa,” they shared on Instagram.

Since the post went up, hundreds of comments have poured in, with many patrons sharing fond memories of their visits over the years.

“There are not enough words to express our gratitude to you all. We have been so fortunate for the support you have all shown us and for the friendships we have formed. We will miss you, and you will always have a place in our hearts.”

The transition to new ownership will happen quickly.

“Next week will be our last week at the deli, and we would love for you to stop by and say hello/good-bye,” they added. “Thank you and grazie mille!”

Shortly after their original post, the Segatos returned to social media to put an end to any speculation that the deli would close its doors for good.

“Rest assured, the deli will live on through the new owners!” the deli shared. “We are sure Victoria will welcome them and show them the continued support we were so fortunate to receive.”

Italian Foods Imports is located at 1114 Blanshard St.
