The sun is setting over the cobbles for Claire Sweeney, who bows out of her Cassie Plummer role after three years.
Before she takes to the stage as Miss Hannigan in a touring production of Annie, one final Coronation Street mystery unfolds.
Cassie’s family have washed their hands with her, seemingly unable to believe claims that son Tyrone Dobbs’s (Alan Halsall) dad Ross Wilkes (Ian Burfield) is a paedophile who groomed her as a teenager. With nowhere left to turn, she boldly announces her departure from Weatherfield for a new job onboard a cruise ship.
The exit quickly looms, and Ross uncharacteristically offers her a lift. He locks the doors, guns the engine, and speeds off into the distance. Is this the last we’ve seen of Cassie?
Elsewhere, Debbie Webster (Sue Devaney) receives a frightening reminder of her dementia prognosis, Dylan Wilson (Liam McCheyne) is attacked after causing girlfriend Betsy Swain’s (Sydney Martin) stroke, and Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) reconnects with an old face.

Cassie wakes up on the sofa at No.4, after Tim finds her passed out in the cab office clutching a bottle of whisky. As she opens up about Steve McDonald (Simon Gregson) ending their relationship and Tyrone throwing her out, Cassie reveals she’s accepted a cleaning job aboard a cruise ship in a bid to start over.
Before leaving Weatherfield behind, she shares an emotional farewell with grandchildren Hope and Ruby Dobbs (Isabella Flanagan and Billie Naylor) and Dorin Pop (Henry Meller), while Fiz Dobbs (Jennie McAlpine) hands her a treasured family photograph to remember them by.
But Cassie’s exit takes a worrying twist when she arranges to meet Steve in the precinct. Before he can arrive, Ross pulls up and offers her a lift. However, after Cassie gets into the car, Ross locks the doors and speeds away just as Steve appears.

Questions continue to mount over Ross’s motives when he later tells Fiz and Tyrone he’s thinking of moving closer to them, only for her to shut the idea down immediately. Steve, meanwhile, demands to know where Ross dropped Cassie off.
Ross initially claims not to know what he’s talking about, but when Steve reveals he witnessed Cassie getting into his car, he hastily changes his story, insisting he left her at Piccadilly Station.

With Ross clearly hiding something, suspicion continues to grow.
Later, he announces he’s starting his new job at Highfield Prison, but Fiz remains frosty towards him, making it clear she’d much rather have Cassie back on the cobbles.
2. Debbie Webster is confronted by a heartbreaking glimpse at her future

Determined to prioritise her health, Debbie tells husband Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) she’s sworn off alcohol as she focuses on looking after her brain. But an encounter with a distressed woman named Sadie (Elizabeth Rider) leaves her shaken after her offer of help is met with an angry outburst.
It transpires that she’s Sienna Milburn’s (Charlotte Tyree) mum, and as she rushes to comfort her, it’s painfully clear Sadie no longer recognises her own daughter. Refusing Asha Alahan’s (Tanisha Gorey) support, Sienna gently leads her mum away, while a horrified Debbie is forced to confront the possibility that she could one day face the same heartbreaking reality.
As Asha and Sienna discuss the challenges of Sadie’s dementia and the difficult decisions surrounding her future care, Ronnie quietly admits to nephew James Bailey (Jason Callender) that their recent holiday highlighted just how much Debbie’s condition has progressed.

Looking back, he believes taking her out of her comfort zone was a mistake and promises Debbie that, when the time comes, he’ll make sure she has the support she needs by arranging professional care.
Meanwhile, Asha and Bernie Winter-Alahan (Jane Hazlegrove) encourage Sienna to consider a nursing home where Sadie can be properly cared for. After accompanying the family to view a facility, Asha later tells dad Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin) how the visit ended in distress when Sadie realised what was happening and panicked.
Listening nearby, Ronnie can’t help but imagine Debbie facing the same future.

3. Dylan Wilson is attacked as Betsy Swain struggles at home

Betsy admits to Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) that she’d like to see Dylan but has fears about mum Lisa Connor-Swain’s (Vicky Myers) reaction if she finds out. After Ryan quietly arranges the meeting, Dylan calls in and Betsy reassures him she doesn’t blame him for everything that’s happened.
However, their emotional conversation is abruptly cut short when Lisa arrives unexpectedly.
Later, Lauren Bolton (Cait Fitton) and Brody Michaelis (Ryan Mulvey) visit Betsy, who continues to struggle with her speech following her ordeal. Lauren is horrified to discover Dylan has already been to see her and becomes even more determined to make him face the consequences.

Brody soon confronts Dylan in the café, warning him to stay away from Betsy, but he hits back by suggesting Brody’s bitterness stems from Betsy never returning his feelings. As tempers flare and the confrontation threatens to turn violent, Nina Lucas (Mollie Gallagher) is forced to step in.
The drama escalates when Nina later discovers Dylan unconscious in the precinct. After regaining consciousness, Dylan faces questions over who attacked him – but will he reveal the truth?
He later visits the café with flowers to thank Nina for helping him, with Sean Tully (Antony Cotton) remaining convinced Brody was responsible for his son’s assault. He confronts him in the street, only for Dylan to insist Brody had nothing to do with it.

Elsewhere, Betsy and Lauren’s friendship comes under strain after a blazing row ends with Lauren storming out, leaving her friend alone. When she returns, she finds Carla Connor-Swain (Alison King) comforting a tearful Betsy after an upsetting accident.
Carla unleashes her anger at Lauren for abandoning her when she was at her most vulnerable.
Meanwhile, Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor) has an important conversation with foster daughter Joanie Michaelis (Savanna Pennington) about the dangers of strangulation during sex, stressing the potentially fatal risks involved.
Later, Lisa encourages Betsy to venture outside and begin rebuilding her confidence, but Betsy refuses to leave the house. Lauren then apologises for walking out on her friend, hoping to repair the damage.
4. Kit Green makes a new discovery that could change everything

Officer Jay arrives at the Redbank Apartments with a hard drive containing all the information Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) requested. When Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon) demands answers, Kit finally reveals Gary Windass’s (Mikey North) connection to Theo’s murder.
He explains that proving Gary’s actions prevented her mum, Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien), from going to the police could significantly reduce her sentence.
As Kit trawls through the contents of his nemesis’s phone, he uncovers a discovery that could change everything. Armed with the new information, he later tracks Gary down in the Rovers and makes a casual remark before inviting him back to the flat for a chat.
5. Tim Metcalfe’s long-lost cousin arrives

Tim gets the surprise of his day when a familiar face climbs into his taxi. His cousin Richie Parkinson (Nathan Sussex) – whom he hasn’t seen for years – is back in Weatherfield, and with Sally away, he wastes no time inviting him to join the lads for a few drinks.
As Tim and Richie fondly reminisce about growing up together, Steve is left feeling like the odd one out. Once the evening winds down, Richie confides that all is far from well at home, admitting his marriage has become deeply unhappy.
Concerned for his cousin, Tim offers him a bed for the night.
