One Vancouver coffee chain is moving in where another left.
JJ Bean will be opening a new location at Fir Street and Broadway in the near future. The popular local coffee chain will be bringing its total number of locations up to 25 with the new spot. It follows the launch of Neate Donuts (JJ’s doughnut offshoot) pop-up shop last year.
JJ Bean has a long history in Vancouver’s coffee scene, as owner John (a.k.a. JJ) Neate Jr.’s grandparents ran Neates Coffee. The company was sold, but Neate opened the first JJ Bean in 1996.
On the JJ website, a new Fir location is listed, but no address is given. However, notices on the door of 1598 West Broadway show renovations are being done for JJ Bean.
There might not be a lot to do, given it was previously a coffee shop.
The cafe space was left when Trees closed its coffee shop there in late 2025 after a dispute with the franchisee who ran the location.
“The franchisee had violated the franchise agreement by purchasing unauthorized third-party food and coffee bean products and passing it off as Trees products,” Trees owner Peter Chiung told Vancouver Is Awesome at the time.
