Surrey council approves two daycare centre proposals

Surrey council approved two daycare centre proposals at third reading on July 27.
The first involves a new childcare facility for up to 46 children at 12036 – 84 Avenue with a caretaker suite proposed for the basement.
It’s on a vacant lot where a single-family dwelling was demolished in 2023.
During a public hearing Deb Jack, president of Surrey Environmental Partners, noted the site has nine trees “and they’re going to kill them all off.
“There will be no natural shade for the children who are going to be attending this school,” Jack said. “I’d like to share with council the concern I have about – and I’ve spoken to this several times before – about the graphics that were shown and that you would see in terms of the proposed developments. And in this particular one they show trees that look to be probably about 30 years old when indeed that’s how this site is not going to look for a very, very, very long time. It’s quite misleading.”
The second proposal, for 15407 – 91A Avenue, is for a child care centre for up to 25 children “as an accessory use” inside an existing single family dwelling that will require three staffers.
Currently there’s a two-storey single-family residence on site with a child care facility for seven children there, with Berkshire Park and Berkshire Park Elementary School nearby.
