The City of Ottawa is adding more celebrations to its bicentennial weekend, announcing Tuesday the details of a block party at Marion Dewar Plaza in front of city hall on Sept. 26.
The free event will run from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and will include food and drink vendors, art exhibits and an “Ottawa transit museum” put on by OC Transpo, among other family-friendly events.
The party will also feature free performances by a variety of artists, including what the city says will be a “special performance” of Ottawa’s 200th birthday song Heart of This Place (Adàwe c’est ma Ville), which was released earlier this month by a team of four local musicians.
“The Ottawa 200 Block Party will be a celebration of everything that makes our city special: our stories, our cultures, our creativity and our incredible people,” said Mayor Mark Sutcliffe in the city’s announcement.

The party comes in addition to other plans to celebrate the city’s birthday.
Bars and restaurants with special approval will be able to extend their last call past 2 a.m. on Sept. 26. OC Transpo service will also be free on the anniversary weekend — part of the city’s compensation for service disruptions during the past winter.
