Delta continues to rank among Canada’s safest communities.

Statistics Canada has released the 2025 Crime Severity Index (CSI) for jurisdictions across Canada.

Delta’s CSI was 59.2, well below both the national (75.0) and British Columbia (92.4) averages, continuing to place Delta among the safest communities in Canada.

The CSI is a national measure used to compare crime across communities. It considers both the volume of crime and the seriousness of offences reported to police.

In a news release, Delta police say compared with 2024, Delta’s CSI increased by 6.7 per cent. The increase was largely influenced by two homicides in 2025, compared with none the previous year.

Police say because the CSI assigns greater weight to the most serious offences, even a small number of incidents can significantly affect the overall score.

According to police, investigators have made significant progress in both homicide investigations. Charges have been laid in one case, while the second, a targeted shooting linked to the B.C. gang conflict, remains under active investigation.

“Crime trends can fluctuate from year-to-year, but our commitment to Delta remains constant,” said Chief Harj Sidhu. “ We continue to focus on where we can have the greatest impact by supporting victims, preventing crime, holding offenders accountable and working with our community partners to keep Delta safe.

“While we monitor the numbers closely, they are only one measure of success. Delta remains one of the safest communities in British Columbia because of the dedication of our employees and the strength of our community.”
