What started as a traffic stop led to firearm and drug-related charges for three people, including two suspects from Brampton.

The incident happened on July 14 shortly after 1 p.m. when officers with the Community Street Crime Unit stopped a vehicle on Highway 527 in Thunder Bay, the OPP says.

But an investigation with the Provincial Guns and Gangs unit was launched after police spoke with the driver, and say officers seized a handgun, cellphones, Canadian currency and “drug related paraphernalia.”

Police say the traffic stop led to three arrests and that the suspects are each facing multiple charges.

Jaylen Caesar, 19, of Brampton, has been charged with

Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000.
Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm.
Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm.
Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a prohibited or restricted weapon.
Careless storage of firearms, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition.
Unauthorized possession of weapon.
Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose.
Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm.

Dante Forbes, 18, of Brampton has been charged with:

Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000.
Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm.
Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm.
Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a prohibited or restricted weapon.
Careless storage of firearms, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition.
Unauthorized possession of weapon.
Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose.
Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm.

Roseanna Kwandibens, 36, of Whitesand First Nation has been charged with:

Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime over $5,000.
Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm.
Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm.
Occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was a prohibited or restricted weapon.
Careless storage of firearms, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition.
Unauthorized possession of weapon.
Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose.
Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm.

The accused are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Thunder Bay at a later date.
