The US Open is coming to Queens from Aug. 23 to Sept. 13 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, which means that many are in the mood for a game of tennis. In New York City, there are hundreds of tennis courts, and one can purchase a tennis permit online.

Tennis season runs from April 1 to the Sunday before Thanksgiving, costing $100 for the full season, or $15 for a single-play permit. Nothing beats playing tennis with a view of the Robert F. Kennedy Bridge looming over. This is an outdoor, hard-type tennis court with lessons offered. They have 14 courts, and it is first come first serve. Make sure to go early, because it gets packed easily. The courts are located between 21st Street and Hoyt Avenue.

Located in the heart of Astoria, the tennis court, nestled near the playground, features 3 hard-type tennis courts. It is located outdoors, and it is first-come first serve. The courts are located between 45th and 46th street at 30th Road.

Made specifically for Sunnyside Gardens residents, the members-only court has four tennis courts. They are hard type and outdoor, perfect for a day of tennis. They are located on 48th Street and Skillman Avenue.

Court 16 is “the first tennis club in the world to use customizable LED-illuminated courts,” according to their website. They feature USTA-sancitioned courts sized for each age and playing level – including 30-foot, 36-foot and 60-foot courts. They also feature pickleball courts and ball machine training. They are not affiliated with NYC Parks, and have their own membership pricing. They are located at 13-06 Queens Plaza South in Long Island City. Hours vary by season. CityView Racquet has it all – according to their website, CityView is “a world-class racquet club for New Yorkers where sport, wellness, and culture are all at home. Whether it’s tennis, padel or squash, look no further for the best hour of your week.” They feature year-round play, with five indoor clay tennis courts. It is temperature controlled, and features programs such as private and group instruction, game arrangements, tournaments, clinics, and round robins, and junior development program. They are not affiliated with NYC Parks, and have their own membership.

They are located at 43-34 32nd Place in Long Island City. Their hours are Monday through Friday, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
