Montreal police are investigating a report that a Jewish family was subjected to antisemitic abuse during a confrontation at La Fontaine Park on Sunday.

The episode began after the father asked a woman to remove her dogs from a children’s playground, where animals were prohibited, according to a video of the confrontation.

The footage shows the woman swearing at the family and saying in French: “Jews aren’t allowed here.”

“Are you trying to scare me or something?” she continued. “That’s called intimidation.”

A sign near the playground warned that dogs were prohibited.

The family filed a police report on Monday, confirmed Florence Stafford, a spokesperson for the Montreal police.

Police are now assessing the report to determine whether a criminal offence had occurred, Stafford told The Gazette.

No arrests have been made.
