HMD has just announced a new device aimed at families – the HMD Fuse protected with HarmBlock+, the world’s first children’s smartphone that can block nude and sexual images across the camera, apps, and even livestreams.
The phone debuts HarmBlock AI, developed with SafeToNet, which is built directly into the device’s operating system. It works locally and cannot be bypassed, disabled, or tricked. Trained on more than 22 million harmful images, HarmBlock AI prevents children from recording, sending, or receiving explicit content while keeping all data private on the device itself.
The Fuse is designed to grow with your child. Parents can start with a “brick phone” setup (calls, texts, and location tracking only) and gradually unlock apps and features as their child matures.
Key safety features include:
Granular parental controls – manage apps, screen time, and create screen-free schedules
Contact whitelisting – calls and messages only from approved contacts
Location tracking – real-time updates with safe zone alerts
Privacy-centric approach – no photos, videos, or browsing history are sent outside the device
On the fun side, the Fuse comes with two interchangeable “outfits,” including one case with a foldable LED light ring around the camera for selfies. The accessories are made from 100% recycled TPU. Well, the phone is based on the Fusion model so all other outfits should work as well.
Availability
The HMD Fuse protected with HarmBlock+ is available now exclusively from Vodafone UK starting at £33/month (£30 upfront). It will also roll out to other markets in the coming months, beginning with Australia.
This launch is part of HMD’s new Family division, born from a co-design project involving over 37,000 parents and children worldwide. Their main request was clear: a safer smartphone that balances protection with usability.
