An investigation is underway by the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) following a shooting Thursday morning in Bridlewood in southwest Calgary involving a police officer.

The incident happened after police responded to a call of a disturbance and a man with a weapon at the 1000 block of Bridlemeadows Manor S.W.

As police arrived the man had entered a residence, after which officers engaged with him and tried to take him into custody. 

Two hours after the original call, which was made at roughly 1 a.m., the man came outside the residence and a confrontation occurred that resulted in one officer firing their weapon.

The suspect was taken to hospital in critical condition. 

AISRT was called and began an investigation. There are no further details available at this time.
