“Cable guy!”
If you ever saw Jim Carrey in the 1996 American black comedy, The Cable Guy, you probably haven’t forgotten it. He delivers a performance almost no one can match, much like his other iconic funny roles.
But you wouldn’t have spotted the A-lister at the recent film shoot for a series under the same name in Vancouver.
Hulu is shooting a pilot show called The Cable Guy starring Jake Johnson and Damon Wayans Jr., who co-starred in New Girl, which promises some fun surprises and a departure from the original take, according to Variety.
Unfortunately, the Ace Ventura star won’t make an appearance in this version.
Pico Production (BC) Ltd. kicked off filming on the project on June 28 and will continue through Aug. 7. The actors will be filming a scene in the 600-block of Dunsmuir on Thursday (July 30) from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. on Friday. But the crew began setting up the area long before and will continue long after, according to a film notification letter.
What will you see on set? The shoot calls for the actors to have dialogue (talk) while buying a hot dog from a vendor. Vancouver police will help with intermittent traffic control.
Vancouver filming locations: Rosewood Hotel Georgia
Crews wrapped up a shoot at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia in downtown Vancouver on Thursday afternoon. I was at the scene to take photos of the set, which included plenty of gear outside of the hotel.
The entrance to the set was the door of the posh property’s downstairs Prophecy Bar. The production had much of the entrance covered with paper, and had a couple of signs stating, “Cable Guy.” In fact, every crew person (all friendly) had shirt stickers that said “Cable Guy.”
There were several wagons with electrical equipment, props and a bunch of other gear.
A line of extras also filed out of the building carrying backpacks, and many of them were dressed in fancy attire. (I really want to know how that scene will play out on the show.) Unfortunately, I couldn’t sneak into Prophecy for a peek.
