Passengers riding Union Pearson Express trains between Mississauga and Toronto on Friday afternoon might notice several delays due to a heat warning issued by Canada’s weather agency, transit officials say.

The UP Express moves passengers between Toronto Pearson Airport in Mississauga and Union Station in downtown Toronto.

Transit officials said to customers in an online post that “a heat warning from Environment Canada is in effect today. We are required to run trains at slower speeds. You may have a longer than usual wait between UP Express trains” between 1:15 and 2:45 p.m.

Metrolinx, the provincial agency that oversees GO Transit and UP Express, added in an online update that any delays on Friday afternoon are due to “weather-related track conditions.”

UP Express officials have also given a heads-up to customers that the trains will be replaced by GO buses the weekend of Aug. 15-16 due to planned construction on the line.

When operating without delays, the express trains transport riders between Canada’s biggest and busiest airport and Union Station in downtown Toronto in just under 30 minutes, making several stops along the way. The trains run every 15 minutes daily until 1 a.m. between downtown Toronto and Pearson.

Officials at Metrolinx said earlier the express train service “has become an integral part of transit in Toronto, having served more than 26 million passengers” since its inception in 2015.

In what at the time was the “first dedicated express air-rail link service in North America,” the UP Express took its first passengers between Pearson and Union Station in downtown Toronto on June 6, 2015, Ontario transit officials said earlier.
